PANTRY

Pantry Volunteers work during the hours we’re open doing all the tasks needed to serve our clients.

Basic categories for those involved directly in the pantry are:
Screeners – those that greet the clients and see that they fill out the necessary paperwork each time they visit.

Packers – workers fill shopping carts of food (including frozen meats, dairy products and boxes of canned goods) for client pickup. Between 35 and 65 carts of food are prepared for each day the pantry serves clients.

Warehouse – these people get the food into the warehouse when it is delivered and then keep the shelves stocked

Volunteers at the pantry often get involved in a mix of these tasks depending on our needs. It’s a great team effort.

Other volunteer needs directly related to the pantry:

Transportation – every time our truck goes to the new Canton warehouse of the Akron-Canton Food Bank, a driver (CDL license not required) and a rider are needed.  This time requirement is typically 2 hours per trip.  We make runs every Monday and Wednesday.

Date entry – a person is needed every day the pantry is open to enter the data about the clients that were served the previous day. This is a sit down office job.

Some of our Pantry volunteers work the same shift each week. Others work periodically. We can accommodate your schedule and desire.

At times people are needed to do pantry work at times outside our open hours – particularly in the warehouse area.
